Friday morning on 29th June 2007. It was raining day that day. Four days in our area (Sempu) rained.
There were many thick clouds. But almost all member of Fragrant Water attended the meeting. There were 40 members included Ms. Dyah and Ms. Dewi. Because in that day we held English Speech Competition ’07. We’ve already finished to do final test. From Monday until this day there were “Class Meeting” (the competition among the classes). And on the last day we held English Speech Competition. There were 3 criterias for scoring. They were pronunciation, fluency and perform. So it needed 3 judges. So we invited Mr. Tato who is also Ms. Dewi’s husband. He is also a teacher. He teaches at SMP Mustanul Makmur Genteng – Banyuwangi (And we thought Mr. Sue Rodger knew him, because when there was Workshop 25th January 2007 in Genteng he followed it too and also on 26th January 2007 he became the chief committee at his school to celebrate Australian day). Although he does not teach English but he loves English very much. So we picked him as the judge. After Ms. Dyah opened the meeting and gave a speech, then one by one the participant showed their ability in speech. Of course the participants were the members of the club (they were about 21 participants). Actually we invited the other students to join to this competition but they were not there. Maybe they were afraid or something else. The theme of our first English Speech Competition was about Juvenile Delinquency. After all the participants presented their speech and Ms. Dewi and Ms. Dyah counted the score. Mr. Tato asked all of us to play some games. The first game was about memorizing. Mr. Tato wrote 10 words on the blackboard. Then he ordered us to memorize all the words as quick as we can. But we could not write those letter on our books/papers. He gave 1 minute to memorize them. After that all of us had to prepare a piece of paper and a pen. Then he ordered us to write those words one by one but not from number 1 but he did in unjumbled number. After that we had to change our paper with other friends. Then luckily there were 10 students who did in correct order. And then Mr. Tato invited 10 students to stand in front of the class to make another game for those students to choose the winner. He would ask a question. True or False game. So the students had to raise the right hand if the answer was True and use the left hand if the answer was False. And finally he did choose the winner. The lucky one was Yeni. Then we countinued on our second game. It was called “Who am I or What am I?” The students had also to prepare a piece of paper and a pen. After that Mr. Tato would give some explanation about something/someone so we had to write the answer. It was wonderful and fantastic game. After he gave 10 explaination/questions then we had to change our paper with other friends. And then we corrected together. And one person who answered all the questions perfectly was Edy. Congratulation pal?! And because we still had a time we made one game again. We all liked game very much. In that time Mr. Tato played some music and all of us (included Ms. Dyah and Ms. Dewi) had to follow that music by jumping/hopping liked kangaroo, he…he…he….. It was funny right?! But we enjoyed this game. In the middle of the music Mr. Tato paused the music and ordered us to make a group by certain persons; first we had to make a group consisted of 4 persons then we hopped again and when he paused the music he ordered us to make a group consisted of 6 people and so on. Then if one or two persons did not get a group they would get punishment. Then he wrote names of persons who did not get a group on the blackboard. And he got 9 names. After that he ordered all the persons to sit down again, except for 9 persons. Then he divided those persons into two groups and there was another game that they had to follow. For each group they had to write the name of national athlete and the name of international athlete. The group which could not fulfill the task or could finish the task late would be punished. And finally group B won the game, so group A had to sing a song as their punishment. After we played and laughed together. There was a time to Ms. Dewi to announce the winners of the competition. Here is the list of the winners:
